Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 14 | Pitch size: 50x65
Play starts with a 3v2 rondo on one side of the pitch. After a set number of successful passes, the team in possession can switch to the opposite rondo grid through the defensive midfielder positioned in between the two rondo grids. If the 2 players out of possession win the ball, they must attempt to score into either of the mini goals located just outside the rondo grids.
• Quick Passing and Movement: Encourage quick, precise passing and constant movement off the ball to maintain possession and create passing lanes.
• Defensive Pressing: The defenders should focus on staying compact, pressing effectively, and trying to intercept the ball to transition quickly into attack.
• Transition Awareness: Once possession is lost, both teams must transition quickly—either to attack or to regain possession.
• Awareness of Space: Players must be aware of the space around them to make the most of the rondo’s overload and create passing opportunities.
Add Attacking Phase:
After every successful switch of play, the possession team will transition to a 3v3 attacking phase against defenders.
Focus: This progression adds a dynamic attacking element to the drill, encouraging fluid transitions from possession to a real match situation.
Add Defender Pressure on Switch:
Once the team switches play, add an additional defender on the opposite grid, creating a 3v3 situation that the possession team must overcome.
Focus: This progression increases the challenge and encourages the possession team to think quickly and execute effective combinations to maintain control and create scoring opportunities.
