Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 30x20

  • This 4v4 directional small-sided game encourages quick, fluid combinations and 1v1/2v2 attacking situations before players score into one of two mini goals. Each team is assigned a goalkeeper who operates along the central line, responsible for protecting both mini goals. The game is fast-paced and requires players to quickly adjust to the goalkeeper’s positioning, often resulting in rapid switches of play to create scoring opportunities. The goalkeepers’ presence challenges players to think on their feet and adjust their attacking decisions.

  • • Quick Combinations – Encourage players to focus on quick, sharp combinations to break through defensive lines and create space for goal-scoring opportunities.

    • Awareness of Goalkeeper Positioning – Players must constantly scan the goalkeeper’s position on the line to adjust their approach and find space to shoot or create an angle for the pass.

    • Attacking Variety – Players should explore both 1v1 and 2v2 attacking situations, testing different strategies to break down the defensive setup.

    • Defensive Tracking – Defenders should stay alert to both the ball and the movement of attacking players, ensuring they close down space while maintaining awareness of the goalkeeper’s position.

  • Limit Time to Score
Set a time limit for each attacking phase (e.g., 10 seconds to attempt a shot on goal).
Focus: Increases the urgency of decision-making and tests players' ability to create chances under pressure.

  • Introduce Additional Defenders
Add an extra defender to one team, creating a 4v3 scenario.
Focus: Enhances defensive organization and challenges the attacking team to work through numerical disadvantage while considering the goalkeeper's influence.
