Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 20x30

  • This practice involves 4 teams of 2 players each. The small-sided game starts 2v2, with both teams attempting to score into single mini goals placed on a narrow pitch.

When in possession, teams can use the 2 bounce players ahead of them to connect and combine in order to create goal-scoring opportunities. The pitch also features end zones located 5 yards from either end, where players must be within to shoot. This restriction prevents players from shooting from anywhere, encouraging forward combination play and more structured attacking moves.

  • • Use of Bounce Players: Teams should focus on using the bounce players effectively to create passing triangles and quick combinations that break down the defensive team.

    • Positioning in End Zones: Encourage players to move into the end zones with purpose, ensuring that they time their runs to receive the ball in a dangerous shooting position.

    • Combination Play: The focus should be on quick, purposeful passing and movement to break down defensive lines and open up space for a shot on goal.

    • Defensive Awareness: Defenders should be vigilant and position themselves to cut off passing lanes to the bounce players, while also being ready to press quickly when possession is lost.

  • Restrict Passing Zones:

Limit the passing options of the attacking team by defining specific areas (e.g., half of the pitch) where they can pass the ball. This forces teams to be more creative and precise in their combination play.

Focus: This progression encourages better decision-making and more purposeful movement, improving attacking creativity under pressure.
