Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 9 | Pitch size: 15x30
This transfer rondo takes place in a 15x30 yard grid divided into two 15x15 yard zones. One team plays 4+1 versus 4 in one zone, working on quick, precise passing and possession. After completing a set number of passes, the team in possession can either dribble or pass to the opposite, currently empty zone. In that zone, they can attack and score into two mini goals, emphasizing speed and accuracy in transferring play.
Once the ball is successfully transferred and scored on one side, the game restarts there and the team attempts to switch back across to the original side, encouraging rapid transitions, spatial awareness, and quick decision-making in switching play effectively.
• Encourage quick, sharp passing to maintain tempo and pressure on defenders – Rapid ball movement forces defenders to constantly adjust their positioning and shape effectively.
• Stress the importance of accurate and timely transfers between zones – Precise passing or dribbling exploits space efficiently and creates scoring chances effectively.
• Promote good communication and scanning before switching play – Players must anticipate teammates’ runs and be ready to receive the ball under pressure.
• Remind players to keep high intensity and speed during transitions – Fast switches disrupt defensive shape and increase attacking opportunities significantly.
Add passive defenders in the receiving zone before transfer
Introduce one or two passive defenders in the receiving zone to increase difficulty, forcing players to make sharper decisions and more precise transfers under pressure.
Focus: Improves passing accuracy, decision-making speed, and composure when under mild defensive pressure consistently.
Limit touches to two per player
Restrict the possession team to a maximum of two touches each, speeding up play and demanding faster control and sharper passing.
Focus: Enhances technical ability, quick thinking, and sharper execution in high-tempo, pressured situations.
