Budapest 3v2 Countering
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 11 | Pitch size: 40x36
This finishing and counter-attacking practice begins with two attackers running into the central zone and combining with a neutral player to create a 3-player passing sequence. The attackers must link play quickly and efficiently before finishing unopposed against the goal, focusing on clean combinations and composed execution.
As soon as the finishing phase is complete, the same two attackers must immediately transition into defenders. At the same time, two new attackers enter from the opposite direction and combine with the neutral player to create a 3v2 counter-attacking scenario. The new attacking team must look to exploit the overload quickly, while the recovering defenders attempt to organise and delay the attack.
• Quality of Combination Play:
Encourage sharp, purposeful passing with good timing and movement to create a clear finishing opportunity.
• Composure in the Finish:
Reinforce calm body shape, controlled technique and efficient execution despite the speed of the combination.
• Transition Reaction:
Emphasise immediate mindset change after finishing, recovering quickly to defend with urgency and awareness.
• Exploiting the Overload:
Coach attackers to recognise space early, move the ball quickly and commit defenders before releasing passes.
Time Limit on Counter Attack:
Introduce a time constraint for the 3v2 phase to encourage quicker attacking decisions and finishing actions.
Focus:
Improves speed of play, attacking urgency and decision-making in realistic transition scenarios under pressure.
Touch Restriction in the 3v2 Phase:
Limit attackers to two or three touches during the counter-attacking phase.
Focus:
Enhances ball speed, technical execution and quicker combinations when exploiting numerical advantages.
