Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 30x30

  • In this possession-based practice, 7 players will attempt to keep possession of the ball against a defending team of 3 in a hexagonal-shaped grid with 4 mini goals positioned on the outside. The aim for the 7 players in possession is to accumulate 10 passes for a point.

The defending team should attempt to break up play by intercepting or forcing errors from the attacking team. Should they win possession cleanly, they must attempt to score into any of the mini goals located around the outside of the grid. This encourages defenders to work on quick transitions and finishing under pressure.

  • • Quick Passing and Movement: The players in possession should focus on quick, sharp passes to maintain possession and move the defenders around, creating space for new passing options.

    • Support and Angle of Support: Players should always offer support at the right angles, making sure they are available for a pass and keeping the ball moving fluidly to avoid being closed down.

    • Defensive Pressing: The defending team should work on coordinated pressing, closing passing lanes, and forcing the attacking team into tight situations to regain possession quickly.

    • Transitions to Attack: Once the defending team wins the ball, they should look to transition quickly, aiming to score in one of the mini goals as fast as possible. Defenders must stay focused and make quick decisions to capitalize on turnover situations.

  • Add More Defenders:

Increase the number of defenders to 4, creating a 7v4 situation. This forces the attacking team to be more precise in their passing and more creative in finding space.

Focus: This progression challenges the attacking players to move the ball even faster and be more dynamic in their positioning to break down a stronger defensive setup.
