Instructions/Setup:
This pressing-focused rondo begins with 2 defenders starting 10 yards outside the main grid, where they have 3 balls ready to play. To start, one of the defenders passes a ball into the grid to initiate a 2v6 rondo scenario. Immediately after the pass, both defenders sprint in to try and win possession.
Once possession is won, the defenders must quickly exit the grid, return to their starting point, and play the next ball in to repeat the process. This cycle continues through all three balls and promotes high-intensity pressing, quick recovery, and transition play.
Coaching Notes:
• Explosive Entry: Defenders should sprint in with intensity and close angles quickly.
• Team Coordination: The two pressing players must communicate and press as a unit to force mistakes.
• Quick Reset: Emphasize a rapid transition back to starting position after each turnover.
• Ball Speed and Movement: Possession players must move the ball quickly and stay spaced to maintain control.
Progression 1: Limit Touches for Possession Players:
Restrict possession players to 1 or 2 touches maximum to increase difficulty.
Focus: Encourages quick decision-making and sharp passing under pressure.
Progression 2: Add a Neutral Support Player Inside the Grid:
Include a neutral player to support the possession team, creating a 7v2 and allowing more dynamic passing combinations.
Focus: Teaches defenders how to press with cover and cut off options effectively.
