Instructions/Setup:
This handball-style possession game challenges players to move the ball quickly and accurately in order to score by receiving a pass inside the end zone. Players are not allowed to travel with the ball once in possession—they must pivot on one foot and find a teammate to pass to. This restriction helps develop ball control, awareness, and quick decision-making under pressure.
To regain possession, defenders must intercept passes or block throws without making contact. The game flows continuously, promoting movement off the ball and intelligent positioning from attackers and defenders alike.
Coaching Notes:
• Quick Ball Movement: Encourage sharp, crisp passing with minimal time spent in possession to exploit gaps in the opposition’s defensive shape.
• Off-the-Ball Movement: Players should constantly scan their surroundings and make intelligent, well-timed runs to create passing angles and options.
• Pivoting Technique: Reinforce strong footwork and body balance when pivoting, allowing players to maintain control and stay composed under pressure.
• Interceptions Over Tackles: Defenders must focus on positioning and timing to intercept cleanly, avoiding fouls while disrupting attacking flow.
Progression 1: Correct Throw-In Technique Required:
All passes must be delivered using the proper throw-in technique as seen in football (both hands, over the head, feet planted).
Focus: Reinforces correct technique under pressure while simulating realistic match scenarios.
Progression 2: Time Limit for Possession:
Each player can only hold the ball for a maximum of 3 seconds before passing.
Focus: Increases game tempo and forces quick thinking and rapid support play.
