Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 6 | Pitch size: 20x30
This warm-up game challenges players to dribble from one end of the grid to the other while navigating two “danger zones” along the way. Each danger zone contains a single defender whose objective is to win the ball from the dribbler. If the defender succeeds, roles immediately switch— the dribbler becomes the defender, and the defender becomes the dribbler. This continuous challenge tests players’ dribbling under pressure and their ability to defend in tight spaces.
The drill helps improve close control, quick decision-making, and defensive reactions in a dynamic and competitive environment. It also encourages players to maintain focus and composure while under threat from opponents.
• Encourage players to use quick changes of direction and body feints – This helps evade defenders effectively and maintain forward momentum through danger zones.
• Stress the importance of close ball control and shielding when under pressure – Players must protect the ball securely to avoid losing possession easily.
• Remind defenders to anticipate dribbler’s moves and stay balanced in a low stance – This allows for quicker reactions and better chances of winning the ball cleanly.
• Emphasize composure and decision-making to choose the best moments to accelerate – Players should balance speed with control for successful dribbles.
Reduced Space in Danger Zones
Shrink the size of the danger zones to increase defensive pressure and force sharper dribbling skills.
Focus: Improve tight control and quick decision-making under intensified defensive pressure.
Add Time Limit Per Attempt
Introduce a time limit for each dribble attempt to encourage faster, more decisive play while maintaining ball control.
Focus: Develop speed of execution and composure under time constraints during attacking runs.
