Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 20x20

  • This drill takes place in a central grid where two teams compete in a 2v2 format, each aiming to score in their two mini goals located ahead. When a team is in possession, two neutral players positioned on the sides of the grid can join the attack, creating a 4v2 overload to help maintain possession and create scoring opportunities. These neutral players are limited to one touch and are not allowed to score, focusing their role on quick support and ball circulation.

The main objective for the attacking team is to utilize the neutral players effectively to outplay the defenders, combining sharp passing and movement to break defensive lines. Defenders work to stay compact and communicate to resist pressure and regain possession as quickly as possible.

  • • Encourage quick, accurate passing to exploit the overload – This helps maintain possession under pressure and creates better scoring chances through intelligent play.

    • Stress constant communication between teammates and neutral players – Good communication enhances positioning and anticipates passing options efficiently to maintain attacking flow.

    • Emphasize quick decision-making and use of one-touch play – Rapid choices prevent defenders from settling and increase attacking tempo effectively with purposeful intent.

    • Remind defenders to stay compact and anticipate passing lanes – This reduces space for attackers and forces errors during ball circulation with disciplined positioning.

  • Limited Time Possession

Introduce a time limit for each possession phase, encouraging faster play and sharper decision-making under game-like conditions.

Focus: Increase tempo and precision under pressure during possession phases to simulate match intensity.
