  • This ball mastery drill focuses on encouraging players to take positive first touches into space, helping them improve their ability to control and accelerate with the ball. The setup consists of two balls being worked simultaneously around a square grid, with gates (poles) placed on both vertical sides of the square. Players must receive the ball and take a positive first touch through the poles before making a forward pass to the next player.

    The drill emphasizes the importance of quick decision-making and fluid movement. Players need to be aware of the space around them and aim to keep the ball moving quickly while maintaining control. This drill helps to develop technical skills like dribbling, passing, and ball control under pressure.

    • Quick Passing: Players should aim to pass the ball quickly after their first touch, avoiding holding onto the ball for too long to maintain the drill's rhythm and tempo.

    • Body Positioning: Players should position their body to receive the ball in such a way that they can quickly open up their hips and drive the ball into space, ensuring smooth transitions.

    • Spatial Awareness: Encourage players to be aware of the surrounding space and anticipate the movement of both the ball and the other players, ensuring they are ready to make their next pass or move.
