Instructions/Setup:
This 1v2 attacking drill focuses on evading defenders and scoring under pressure. Play begins with a pass across the grid to the attacker, who must then face two defenders. The attacker’s objective is to score into either of the two mini-goals positioned to the left and right of their initial receiving position. The attacker has the freedom to switch between the two sides of the grid, attempting to outmaneuver the defenders and finish on goal.
This practice helps attackers work on their decision-making and creativity when faced with multiple defenders. It also encourages quick dribbling and the ability to read defensive pressure to exploit space effectively.
Coaching Notes:
• Evading Pressure: Encourage the attacker to use quick changes of direction, feints, and explosive bursts of speed to beat the defenders.
• Head-Up Awareness: The attacker should constantly scan the field to identify which mini-goal offers the best opportunity and make quick decisions based on defender positioning.
• Use of Space: Stress the importance of the attacker using the entire grid, switching sides as needed to create space and confuse the defenders.
• Defensive Positioning: The defenders should focus on cutting off passing lanes and pressuring the attacker without committing too early, maintaining balance and positioning to prevent a shot.
Progression 1: Add a Time Limit:
Introduce a time limit for the attacker to score in one of the mini-goals, increasing the intensity of the drill and encouraging quicker decision-making and faster execution.
Focus: Increases urgency and tempo, encouraging the attacker to act quickly under pressure.
