Instructions/Setup:

This overload drill is played on 1/3 of the pitch and is structured into 4 distinct phases: two wide phases, one central phase, and one full phase. The drill follows a wave-style pattern, where each phase progressively builds up to create overload situations for the attacking team. The phases allow for different types of attacking setups, starting with the ball played from a deep server into whichever phase is ready to be executed.

Each phase is designed to offer the attacking team an overload in terms of players, encouraging them to exploit space and create goal-scoring opportunities. As play progresses through each phase, players work on improving their decision-making, timing of runs, and overall attacking combinations. The drill focuses on developing fluid transitions between different areas of the pitch, with the attacking team always having the numerical advantage to break down the defense.

Coaching Notes:

• Attacking Overload: Ensure the attacking team maintains numerical superiority in each phase, allowing them to create space and make better decisions under pressure.

• Quick Transitions: Emphasize the importance of transitioning quickly between phases, with the attacking team rapidly shifting their focus from one area of the pitch to another.

• Timing of Runs: The attackers must time their runs well to ensure they are in the right position when the ball is played, particularly in the wide and central phases.

• Exploiting Space: Players should always look to exploit the space created by the overload, making intelligent off-the-ball runs to stretch the defense and create opportunities.

Progression 1: Limit Touches for Attackers:

Limit the number of touches each attacker can take in each phase, forcing them to move the ball quickly and work on first-time passes.

Focus: Enhances the speed of play and encourages the attacking team to think and execute quickly, simulating match-like conditions.
