Instructions/Setup:
This technical warm-up focuses on improving key skills such as 1-touch passing, receiving on the half-turn, and quick combination play. Players will work through a series of passing drills where they must receive the ball with the appropriate foot, adjust their body to receive on the half-turn, and use quick, accurate passes to maintain the flow of the game. The drill emphasizes small, effective movements off the ball to create space and provide passing options, with a particular focus on speed and precision in executing the passes.
The goal of this warm-up is to improve players' technical ability and their awareness of space, ensuring they can move the ball quickly and efficiently in tight situations. It also helps to develop fluidity in combination play, promoting a quick-thinking mindset that can be applied in real match scenarios.
Coaching Notes:
• 1-Touch Passing: Encourage players to pass the ball with one touch whenever possible, keeping the tempo high and the ball moving quickly. Focus on accuracy and speed in delivering the passes.
• Receiving on the Half-Turn: Instruct players to receive the ball on the half-turn to immediately face the direction they want to play, reducing time and increasing decision-making speed.
• Small Movements to Receive: Players should focus on making subtle, quick movements to offer themselves as a passing option. Emphasize that players should always be on the move to stay in the game and find space.
• Combination Play: Encourage quick 1-2 passing between players to break down defensive lines. Ensure that players remain aware of their surroundings, always looking to play the next pass with intent and precision.
