Instructions/Setup:
This small-sided game (SSG) involves three teams of four players, where two teams compete in a 4v4 format while the third team serves as bounce players positioned along the outside of the grid. The bounce players are limited to one touch and play a key role in helping the teams maintain possession and progress the ball quickly. The main goal of the game is to score in one central goal, and teams rotate in and out, ensuring a dynamic and fast-paced environment with constant engagement.
The game encourages quick transitions and fluid attacking play, as teams must rely on their bounce players to keep the ball moving quickly. With only one goal to score in, teams need to focus on fast, direct play to break down the opposition while using the bounce players effectively to maintain pressure and keep possession. This setup promotes a high-intensity, continuous flow of play and helps improve players’ decision-making, positioning, and communication.
Coaching Notes:
• Quick Transitions: Emphasize the importance of quick ball movement when switching possession, as players need to use the bounce players effectively to maintain a fast pace and build attacks.
• Effective Use of Bounce Players: Encourage the team in possession to involve the bounce players by making smart passes and utilizing the one-touch rule to keep the game fluid. Players should be aware of space and timing when passing to the bounce players.
• High Press and Intensity: The limited 1-touch rule for bounce players should encourage both attacking teams to press high and keep the tempo high. This intensity will help the players focus on creating opportunities quickly.
• Space Awareness: Players must constantly be aware of the positioning of the bounce players and their teammates to maintain possession and exploit the wide areas. This requires quick decision-making and anticipation.
Progression 1: Limit Possession Time for Attacking Teams:
Implement a rule where each team can only maintain possession for a set amount of time (e.g., 15 seconds) before having to make a shot on goal or pass to a bounce player.
Focus: This progression increases the urgency of ball movement and decision-making, encouraging quicker attacks and better use of space.
Progression 2: Add a Second Goal:
Introduce a second mini-goal for teams to score into, increasing the attacking options and forcing players to spread the game across the whole area.
Focus: This progression enhances attacking variety, challenging teams to think about different ways to break down the opposition and create scoring opportunities.
