Instructions/Setup:
This drill focuses on building attacking combinations and transitioning from a 3v1 overload to a 3v2 situation, promoting quick decision-making and fluid attacking play. Play begins with a 3v1 attack in the first zone, where the attacking team must attempt to cross the ball into the second zone. Once the attacking team successfully enters the second zone, they will face a 3v2 attack, where their objective is to score into one of two mini goals.
If the defending team wins possession, they must pass the ball across the grid and attempt to score into either of the two mini goals. Upon scoring, the defending team swaps roles with the attackers, maintaining a dynamic flow and ensuring both teams are equally engaged in attacking and defending.
Coaching Notes:
• Attacking Overload: Encourage the attacking team to use their numerical advantage in the first zone, focusing on quick, accurate passing and movement to break down the defender.
• Transition Speed: Once the ball is crossed into the second zone, the attacking team must quickly transition into a 3v2 attack. Encourage fast ball movement and intelligent positioning to exploit the overload.
• Defensive Pressure: When defending, encourage players to work together to apply pressure on the attacking team. Defenders should communicate and cover passing lanes to force errors or win possession.
• Quick Transition to Attack: If the defending team wins the ball, they should immediately look to switch the play and attack with speed. The focus should be on passing quickly across the grid and taking advantage of the space available.
Progression 1: Add Time Limit:
Introduce a time limit for the attacking team to score in the second zone (e.g., 15 seconds). This will add urgency and encourage quicker decision-making and attacking combinations.
Focus: Increases the tempo and decision-making speed under time pressure.
Progression 2: Increase Defensive Pressure:
Introduce a third defender in the second zone, creating a 3v3 situation for the attackers. This progression encourages the attacking team to work even harder to create space and find shooting opportunities.
Focus: Challenges attacking players to make quicker decisions and improve their ability to break down a more compact defensive setup.
