Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 5 | Pitch size: 20x20

  • This technical passing practice is designed to develop ball control, passing accuracy, communication, and attacking movement. Five players work with a single ball in a squad-based rotation around a grid or marked area. Each corner of the area features a “gate” where a player can receive the ball.

Before receiving, the player at each gate performs one of two specific attacking movements: a “show to go” or a “go to show,” which are signalled to teammates through movement or call. The passing sequence continues around the squad, emphasising timing, awareness, and clean execution.

This practice encourages players to combine technical skills with tactical understanding, reinforcing movement off the ball and the connection between body positioning, visual cues, and passing options.

  • • Passing Technique: Focus on accurate, well-weighted passes to the receiving player, using both feet when appropriate.

    • Attacking Movement: Ensure players perform the “show to go” and “go to show” movements sharply and clearly before receiving the ball.

    • Communication: Encourage verbal and non-verbal cues to signal intentions, ensuring smooth transitions and awareness among teammates.

    • Receiving and Control: Emphasise first touch orientation, body positioning, and readiness to continue the sequence with speed and precision.

  • Progression One

Add a Passive Defender: Introduce a passive defender who lightly pressures the receiver after the movements are completed.

Focus: Develops composure under pressure, quick thinking, and adaptability when receiving in realistic scenarios.
