Instructions/Setup:

This passing warm-up drill focuses on improving combination play under pressure. Players are encouraged to move the ball quickly and efficiently while dealing with semi-opposed pressure from a pressing defender. The practice is set up in a central grid, with players constantly moving to follow their passes. As each player receives the ball, they are immediately faced with pressure from a defender, requiring them to make quick decisions, use good passing technique, and maintain possession under pressure. The drill helps players develop their ability to pass and receive in tight spaces while under pressure, improving their composure and decision-making.

The warm-up also encourages players to support each other, ensuring that options are available for the passer to make effective combinations and progress the ball through the grid.

Coaching Notes:

• Quick Passing: Emphasize the importance of quick, accurate passes. Players should focus on passing the ball one-touch or two-touch to keep the tempo high and avoid being closed down by the defender.

• Body Positioning: Encourage players to receive the ball with their body open to the field. This allows them to quickly assess their options and make better decisions under pressure.

• Movement After Passing: Players must immediately follow their pass, providing additional support and options for the player in possession. Constant movement helps create space and maintain attacking momentum.

• Pressure Awareness: Players receiving the ball should constantly be aware of the defender's position. Encourage them to use body fakes, quick turns, and feints to evade the defender and maintain possession.

Progression 1: Increase the Pressure:

Introduce a second defender to apply more intense pressure on the player receiving the ball. This will encourage players to be even quicker in their decision-making and passing.

Focus: Improves players’ ability to deal with more intense defensive pressure and work under greater stress.
