Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 6 | Pitch size: 20x20

  • This fitness and conditioning drill combines technical passing with aerobic conditioning. Players will focus on making quick 1-touch passes before sprinting around the poles and reaching the opposite side in time to receive and play another 1-touch pass. The drill emphasizes speed, endurance, and technical precision under fatigue, making it ideal for improving overall fitness while maintaining passing accuracy.

The circuit-style setup encourages players to maintain intensity and focus on both their fitness and technical execution. This drill can be adapted to suit various fitness levels and can be intensified by increasing the distance between poles or the number of passes required.

  • • Quick Passing: Players must focus on making crisp, accurate 1-touch passes. The key is to keep the ball moving quickly while ensuring it reaches the target with precision.

    • Efficient Sprinting: Encourage players to sprint as fast as possible around the poles, focusing on maintaining proper running form and not losing speed between passes.

    • Timing and Speed: Players must time their sprints so they arrive in time to play the next pass. This builds awareness of space and timing, crucial for both fitness and technical success.

    • Recovery Between Sprints: Emphasize brief moments of recovery between sprints. Players should pace themselves during the sprints to avoid burnout while still maintaining a high level of intensity.

  • Increase Distance Between Poles:

Increase the distance between the poles, requiring longer sprints and more effort to maintain the same level of intensity.

Focus: Increases cardiovascular endurance and challenges players’ ability to recover and maintain speed over longer distances.

  • Add Multiple Touches:

Introduce a variation where players need to make 2 or 3 touches before passing. This will emphasize control and passing accuracy under pressure.

Focus: Enhances technical control and passing under a higher level of pressure while still maintaining the focus on sprinting and fitness.
