Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 30x30

  • This technical passing practice is designed to reinforce key build-up principles such as back-foot receiving, forward body shape and quick ball circulation. The practice operates with two balls simultaneously, ensuring a high tempo and constant engagement for all players.

Both balls are played into two central players, who must scan, receive on the back foot and play forward where possible. After receiving centrally, players are required to move the ball out to supporting teammates positioned around the outside before resetting their position for the next repetition. The continuous flow of passes encourages rhythm, timing and technical consistency while replicating common build-up patterns seen in match play.

  • • Back-Foot Receiving: Emphasise opening the body and receiving on the furthest foot to allow players to play forward with their next action.

    • Body Shape Before the Pass: Encourage players to scan early and adopt an open stance to see both sides of the pitch.

    • Pass Detail and Weight: Reinforce firm, accurate passes played into the correct foot to support clean ball progression.

    • Tempo and Concentration: With two balls in play, stress constant focus, communication and movement to maintain flow.

  • Two-Touch Requirement for Central Players:
Central players must receive on the back foot with their first touch and play forward with their second.

Focus: Improves first-touch quality, awareness and speed of ball circulation.
