Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 7 | Pitch size: 30x30

  • This drill develops an attacker’s ability to receive under tight pressure, combine quickly, and then create separation for a 1v1 scoring opportunity. Play starts with the attacker receiving a pass while a defender applies close pressure from behind. The attacker plays a quick 1-2 with an unopposed teammate before making a decisive movement or run to break free from the defender. This initiates a 1v1 duel where the attacker aims to beat the defender and score into the main goal.

The drill sharpens first touch, combination play, spatial awareness, and dribbling skills under pressure. Defenders improve their tracking, positioning, and one-on-one defending in realistic attacking scenarios.

  • • Stress tight, controlled first touches to help attackers maintain possession under intense pressure – Clean control is vital for executing the quick 1-2 successfully and keeping attacking flow.

    • Encourage quick, sharp 1-2 passing to disrupt defender’s positioning and create attacking space – Fast combinations make it harder for defenders to anticipate and close down.

    • Remind attackers to use feints and sharp changes of direction to create separation from defenders – Effective body movement deceives defenders and opens clear paths to goal.

    • Emphasize composure and precision when finishing 1v1 against the goalkeeper – Players should focus on placement and timing to maximize scoring chances under pressure.

  • Limit 1-2 Touches

Restrict the attacker and teammate to one or two touches during the 1-2 combination to increase challenge.

Focus: Enhance attackers’ quick thinking, sharp passing, and movement efficiency in tight spaces.
