Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 1/2 Pitch

  • This drill focuses on quick combination play and precise finishing involving an attacking midfielder and a striker. The attacking midfielder receives a pass from the wide area and must play a first-time pass through mannequins positioned centrally. The onrushing striker times their run to meet the pass and take a controlled shot to score. The practice is mirrored with two teams working simultaneously, one attacking up the grid and the other down, allowing repetition and flow without interruption, which helps players build confidence and sharpen attacking instincts under consistent practice conditions.

The drill develops timing, vision, passing accuracy, and clinical finishing, preparing players for sharp attacking movements in game situations. Players learn to improve coordination and awareness, enhancing their ability to perform under pressure in competitive matches.

  • • Emphasize sharp, accurate first-time passing through tight gaps between mannequins – This encourages quick ball movement and vision in congested attacking areas.

    • Encourage precise timing of the striker’s run to connect effectively with the pass – Well-timed runs increase scoring chances and reduce offside risks.

    • Stress controlled shooting with composure immediately after receiving the pass – Players should focus on accuracy and calm execution in front of goal.

    • Highlight the importance of communication and eye contact betw

  • Active Defensive Pressure

Add active defenders who press both the attacking midfielder and striker. The midfielder must find quicker, smarter passing lanes, and the striker must adjust runs to lose markers and create shooting chances under pressure.

Focus: Develop technical skill under pressure, enhance movement off the ball, and improve composure when finishing against defenders actively disrupting play.
