Hoffenheim Finishing Into Double 2v2
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 7 | Pitch size: 40x50
This finishing and transition practice combines unopposed finishing with repeated defensive actions, challenging players to switch quickly between attacking and defending roles. Play begins with two attackers combining through a quick 1–2 before one player makes a run in behind to receive and finish unopposed. The emphasis in this opening phase is on timing, movement and efficient finishing execution.
Immediately after the finish, both attackers transition into defenders and must defend a 2v2 attack played across the horizontal width of the pitch. Once that phase is complete, they are required to defend again in a second 2v2 scenario attacking in the opposite direction. The practice places significant demands on players' fitness, concentration and ability to perform effectively during repeated transitions between attacking and defensive phases.
• Quality of the Initial Combination:
Encourage sharp passing, correct timing of the 1–2 and explosive movement to create separation before the finish.
• Composure in Front of Goal:
Reinforce calm finishing technique, positive first touches and accurate execution despite the upcoming defensive workload.
• Speed of Defensive Transition:
Emphasise immediate reactions after finishing, sprinting back quickly and organising effectively before the 2v2 develops.
• Defending Under Fatigue:
Coach players to communicate clearly, stay compact and make intelligent defensive decisions despite repeated high-intensity efforts.
Time Limit on Both 2v2 Phases:
Introduce a strict time limit for each attacking phase to increase tempo, urgency and transition intensity.
Focus:
Improves defensive recovery speed, decision-making under pressure and the ability to perform repeatedly at match tempo.
Touch Restriction During the 2v2 Attacks:
Limit attackers to two or three touches to increase ball speed and challenge defensive reactions.
Focus:
Enhances technical execution, quicker attacking combinations and defenders' ability to read and react to play.
