Hoffenheim Midfield 3v3+2
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 40x25
This midfield possession practice is built around a 3+2v3+2 format, where two teams of three compete within a central zone to retain possession and create scoring opportunities. The central players must combine effectively, using movement, support angles and quick passing combinations to manipulate the opposition and create openings. The objective is to maintain control while identifying opportunities to attack one of the three mini goals positioned at their attacking end.
Positioned between each team's three mini goals are two supporting players, who act as neutral bounce players and can be used to link play, create overloads and facilitate quick combinations. These supporting players help the midfield unit progress possession and create better angles for finishing into the mini goals. The practice encourages creativity, quick decision-making and effective use of support players in tight spaces.
Coaching Note
• Use of Supporting Players:
Encourage midfielders to recognise opportunities to combine through the support players to create space and overloads.
• Ball Speed and Circulation:
Reinforce moving the ball quickly with minimal touches to unbalance defenders and open passing lanes.
• Movement to Receive:
Coach players to constantly adjust their position, creating angles and separation to receive under pressure effectively.
• Decision-Making Around the Goals:
Emphasise recognising the right moment to combine, shoot or use a bounce pass to create scoring chances.
Two-Touch Limit for Central Players:
Restrict central players to two touches to increase tempo, technical demand and scanning before receiving.
Focus:
Improves first-touch quality, quicker decision-making and more efficient use of support players in possession.
One-Touch Support Players:
Require the supporting players to play one-touch whenever possible to increase speed and rhythm of play.
Focus:
Enhances combination quality, faster ball circulation and the ability to create scoring opportunities through quick interactions.
