Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 7 | Pitch size: 30x36
This fitness drill combines attacking play with recovery runs, designed to improve both offensive and defensive transition speed. The drill begins with a pass into the attacker, and immediately, two defenders must react and make recovery runs to stop a 1v1 situation. The attacker is only allowed to finish once they have reached the box, which ensures that the defenders have time to recover and challenge the attack.
The main focus is on improving the defenders’ ability to recover quickly and the attackers’ ability to capitalize on the 1v1 opportunity.
• Recovery Runs: The defenders must quickly react and sprint back to cover the attacker. Focus on explosive movement and sprinting efficiency to close the space quickly and put pressure on the attacker before they reach the box.
• Attacker's Composure: The attacker should stay composed while approaching the goal. Once inside the box, they should aim for a well-placed shot, taking into account the time spent closing the distance and the defending pressure.
• Decision-Making Under Pressure: Both attackers and defenders must make quick decisions under pressure. Attackers should assess the situation and determine whether to shoot early or dribble, while defenders must decide how to close down the space effectively.
• Communication: Encourage the defenders to communicate with each other during the recovery runs to avoid confusion, while the attacker should focus on making quick, smart decisions.
Add Extra Attacker:
Introduce a second attacker to the situation. The defenders now face a 2v1 situation in the box, which increases the attacking pressure and requires the defenders to focus on tactical positioning and communication in recovery.
Focus: This progression enhances defenders' ability to recover while
