Instructions/Setup:
This passing and dribbling mastery practice focuses on developing close control, dribbling techniques, and passing accuracy. The setup involves 8 stations placed on the outside of a grid, with 4 cones in the center. Players will alternate between dribbling through the center cones and passing around the outside stations. The combination of these tasks enhances players' ability to maintain possession, execute quick passes, and change direction effectively while keeping control of the ball.
The focus is on improving both technical and decision-making skills by integrating dribbling and passing in a dynamic environment. Players should work on their ability to execute quick turns, changes of direction, and accurate passes under minimal pressure.
Coaching Notes:
• Dribbling Control: Players should focus on maintaining close control of the ball while navigating through the central cones. Encourage players to use both feet and perform various turns, such as the inside/outside cuts and pullbacks, to enhance their dribbling skills. Emphasize the importance of staying low to the ground and using small touches to keep the ball close.
• Passing Accuracy: When passing around the outside stations, players should focus on delivering crisp, accurate passes to their teammates. The emphasis should be on using both feet to make quick passes, ensuring that the ball reaches its target accurately and without unnecessary force. Players should also work on passing with proper timing and weight to facilitate smooth transitions.
• Awareness and Timing: Encourage players to keep their heads up, scanning the area around them for both passing options and space to dribble. Players should make quick decisions about when to dribble and when to pass, incorporating fluid transitions between the two.
• Body Positioning: While dribbling, players should maintain proper body positioning to shield the ball from imaginary defenders. Encourage them to use their body to protect the ball while setting up for the next move, whether it's a pass or a change of direction.
Progression 1: Two-Ball Combination:
Introduce a second ball into the practice, where players must dribble through the center cones with one ball while simultaneously passing the other ball around the outside stations. This will require players to manage both tasks simultaneously, improving multitasking and awareness.
Focus: This progression challenges players to multitask and improve their focus, ensuring that they can execute both dribbling and passing skills at the same time.
