Instructions/Setup:
This unopposed crossing and finishing drill takes place in a central area, encouraging players to combine centrally before finishing and then quickly transitioning to attack a wide cross. Two attackers work with two neutral players to create a central combination, leading to a first shot on goal. Immediately after the finish, the two attackers must react, turn, and attack a cross delivered from the opposite side, aiming for a second finish into the other goal.
Coaching Notes:
• Combination Detail – Focus on crisp, accurate passing and well-timed movement during the central combination to create space for the first finish.
• Finishing Quality – Players should concentrate on clean, decisive finishes off the combination to simulate real goalscoring chances.
• Reaction Speed – After the initial shot, encourage quick reactions to transition and attack the cross at pace.
• Timing of Runs – Players must time their runs into the box when attacking the cross to arrive at the right moment for an effective finish.
Progression 1: One-Touch Central Combination
Players are limited to one touch during the central combination, increasing the speed and sharpness of the build-up.
Focus: Improving technical execution and tempo in tight spaces.
Progression 2: Delayed Crosses
The wide player delays the cross by 1–2 seconds, forcing the attackers to adjust their movement and timing before attacking the delivery.
Focus: Developing patience, reading the cross, and adjusting movement inside the box.
