Instructions/Setup:
This attacking practice encourages quick 1v1 attacks from multiple angles around the box, with the aim to beat defenders and create goal-scoring opportunities. Play starts with a ball into the central forward, who must attempt to beat the defender and score within a short time frame.
Once each attacking phase is complete, the attacker must travel to an outside station and play a short combination with a teammate to bring a new attacker into play. If the defender wins possession and scores into any of the mini-goals, they are rewarded with a rest period and switch with another defender. This rotation helps maintain intensity while promoting competition and quick decision-making.
Coaching Notes:
• Quick Decision-Making: Encourage attackers to make fast decisions when in possession. They should be prepared to either take on the defender directly or create space for a quick shot or pass, based on the defender's position.
• Change of Direction: Attacking players must use quick changes of direction to beat the defender. Explosive movements and sharp turns will help them create separation and take advantage of any space in the box.
• Defender's Focus: Defenders should be taught to stay patient and focus on positioning rather than committing too early. They must aim to delay the attack, forcing the attacker into less favorable positions to limit scoring chances.
• Combination Play: When moving to the outside station, players should focus on quick, short combinations to break down the defensive lines. The combination should be fluid, with players making timed runs and passes to maintain momentum.
Progression 1: Add a Second Defender:
Introduce a second defender to increase the pressure on the attacker. The attacker must now beat both defenders or look to combine with teammates to outmaneuver the defense.
Focus: Develops the ability to attack with support and helps players refine their 1v1 skills under increased defensive pressure.
Progression 2: Add a Time Limit:
Introduce a time limit for each phase of the attack. This encourages attackers to make quicker decisions, reducing the time they have to beat defenders or set up a scoring opportunity.
Focus: Encourages attackers to execute their moves under time pressure, simulating real-game scenarios where decisions need to be made rapidly.
