Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 4 | Pitch size: 40x30
Play starts with two separate 1v1 battles taking place on the edges of the grid in a narrow space. The attackers in these 1v1 duels aim to beat their defenders and create an opportunity to progress the ball. Once both 1v1's are complete, a 2v2 battle will take place in the middle zone, with the coach serving a ball into the opposite team to initiate the next phase.
All 1v1's and 2v2's are played to a finish, with both teams having the ability to score in either of the 2 mini goals. This structure encourages dynamic transitions and quick decision-making as players move from individual duels to a more cooperative team situation.
• 1v1 Focus: Players must use quick footwork, agility, and ball control to beat their defender in tight spaces. Encourage attackers to create separation through explosive changes in direction, while defenders should focus on positioning to block angles and delay the attack.
• 2v2 Transition: Once the 1v1 battles are complete, players must quickly transition into the 2v2 situation. Encourage attacking players to use the width of the field and overload the defenders, while defenders should communicate to cover the space and prevent an easy goal.
• Creative Finishing: Both the attackers and defenders should be ready to react to changing ball positions. Attackers should be encouraged to shoot quickly when possible, while defenders should work together to close down shooting angles and force the attacker into difficult situations.
