Leverkusen Passing Activation

Instructions/Setup:

This passing/mastery warm-up involves 4 outer stations and 1 central pole. Players at opposite stations will play a 1-2 combination centrally before changing direction and playing a pass out to one of the side stations. After playing the pass, the player will follow the ball to the side station. The same sequence occurs at the opposite side, where the player plays a two-touch combination and then passes out to the sides, following their pass to the next station.

This warm-up helps players work on their passing accuracy, quick combinations, and movement off the ball to different areas of the grid. It enhances both technical ability and spatial awareness in a dynamic, high-tempo setting.

Coaching Notes:

• 1-2 Combinations: Emphasize crisp, quick passes when performing the 1-2 combinations, encouraging players to focus on timing and accuracy. The first pass should be firm and directed towards the player’s receiving foot to make the return pass easier.

• Directional Movement: After the combination, players should change direction immediately and move with purpose to the side stations. This helps them develop awareness of space and improve their ability to move after playing a pass.

• Passing Quality: The passes to the side stations should be weighted properly to ensure they are easy for the next player to control. Encourage players to play with both feet to improve their versatility in different game situations.

Progression 1: Increase the Passing Distance:

Expand the grid and increase the distance between stations. This will force players to focus on longer passing accuracy and control, while maintaining the flow of the combination play.
