Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 9 | Pitch size: 1/2 Pitch

  • In this unopposed attacking practice, players work through a series of passing actions focused on progressing the ball from central areas into wide positions. Once the winger receives, they are tasked with finding either an overlapping or underlapping full back, who then delivers a cross into the box. Two attackers time their movements to attack the cross and finish, with all actions performed unopposed to maximise technical quality, timing and attacking detail.

  • • Quality of Central Passing:
Emphasise accurate, well-weighted forward passes that allow the winger to receive facing forward with minimal adjustment.

    • Timing of Overlaps and Underlaps:
Coach full backs to recognise cues, accelerating at the correct moment to arrive on the ball with momentum.

    • Crossing Technique & Decision Making:
Encourage varied crossing techniques, adjusting delivery based on movement, body shape and finishing zones.

    • Attacking Movement in the Box:
Reinforce coordinated runs, different attacking lines and correct spacing to attack front and back zones.

  • Two-Touch Maximum in Build-Up:
Limit players to two touches during the passing sequence before the cross is delivered.

    Focus:
Improves first-touch quality, sharper passing tempo and quicker recognition of attacking opportunities.

  • Finishing Zones or Touch Restrictions:
Assign finishing zones or require first-time finishes from crosses inside the penalty area.

    Focus:
Enhances composure, finishing accuracy and realistic attacking habits under time-based pressure.
