Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 5 | Pitch size: 30x50

  • This dynamic 1v1 drill challenges players to take on a defender just outside the penalty area, working on close control, dribbling under pressure, and decision-making in tight spaces. The attacker aims to score in one of two mini goals while facing direct defensive pressure. Upon scoring, the player immediately transitions to receive an unopposed finish inside the penalty area from a coach positioned behind the main goal.

If the attacker fails to score in the initial 1v1 phase, roles switch, and they become the defender in the next repetition, keeping intensity and focus high throughout continuous rotations.

  • • Emphasize Close Ball Control While Dribbling – Maintain tight control to navigate past the defender effectively and create shooting opportunities.

    • Encourage Quick Decision-Making Under Pressure – Players must read the defender’s movements and decide when to dribble or shoot swiftly.

    • Focus on Accurate Finishing in Both Phases – Prioritize clean strikes on goal whether under pressure or unopposed to maximize scoring chances.

    • Stress Smooth and Fast Transitions Between Roles – Switching quickly between attacker and defender roles keeps players engaged and simulates match intensity.

  • Reduce Time Allowed for the 1v1 Phase
Shorten the window to beat the defender to increase pressure and enhance quick thinking under tighter constraints.

    Focus:
Develops faster reaction times, sharper dribbling skills, and improved composure during quick offensive transitions.

  • Add a Passive Defender in the Unopposed Finishing Phase
Introduce a passive defender to slightly challenge the finish without full defensive pressure, encouraging improved spatial awareness and technique.

    Focus:
Enhances finishing accuracy while adapting to minimal defensive pressure and encourages maintaining technique under slight contest.
