Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 1/2 Pitch

  • This drill focuses on developing attacking combinations and smooth finishing. A player starts by playing a diagonal pass to a teammate, who then executes a quick 1-2 with the passer. After the return pass, the receiving player makes a timed run around a mannequin into the box to receive the ball and finish unopposed on goal.

The continuous flow of the combination encourages timing, movement off the ball, and composure in front of goal without defensive pressure.

  • • Encourage Crisp and Accurate Diagonal Passing – Ensure the initial pass sets up the 1-2 and run effectively with good weight and timing.

    • Focus on Timing the Run Around the Mannequin – The attacker’s movement should be perfectly timed to receive the ball in a strong scoring position.

    • Stress Quick, Clean First Touches During the 1-2 – Good control is key to maintaining speed, rhythm, and momentum in the attacking combination.

    • Promote Composure and Accuracy in the Finish – Even without pressure, focus on clean, confident, and technically sound striking of the ball.

  • Add a passive defender on the run to lightly contest the attacker
Introduce a passive defender positioned near the mannequin to challenge timing and decision-making without applying full defensive pressure, promoting sharper awareness.

    Focus:
Enhances movement timing, adaptability under mild pressure, and reinforces accurate finishing with a slight defensive challenge.
