Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 5 | Pitch size: 25x25

  • This drill begins with a pass played across the grid to start the sequence. The receiving player dribbles the ball up to the top of the grid and makes a controlled run around a mannequin. After this, they immediately transition into a 1v1 situation against a defender who starts positioned on the bottom line of the grid. The attacker’s objective is to beat the defender and score into either of the two mini goals located on the bottom line.

This drill focuses on technical mastery in tight spaces, close ball control, and quick transitions from dribbling to attacking. The 1v1 phase challenges the attacker to use skill, timing, and decision-making to create scoring opportunities under pressure.

  • • Emphasize Controlled Dribbling Around the Mannequin – Smooth, close control sets up a strong foundation for the 1v1 attack and allows better preparation for the next phase.

    • Encourage Sharp and Confident 1v1 Attacking Moves – The attacker must use quick feints and changes of direction to beat the defender effectively.

    • Stress Defensive Readiness and Positioning – The defender should maintain balanced positioning and anticipate the attacker’s moves to minimize space efficiently.

    • Promote Accuracy and Composure in Finishing – Scoring into one of the two mini goals requires clean, decisive strikes under pressure to increase success rate.

  • Introduce a timed element for the 1v1
Add a time limit for the attacker to score, increasing intensity and encouraging faster decision-making and execution in the 1v1 phase.

    Focus:
Improves urgency, quick thinking, and composure under time pressure in attacking scenarios.
