Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 8 | Pitch size: 1/3 Pitch

  • This dynamic drill begins with a 3v2 rondo positioned just outside the penalty area. The team of three players aims to complete six consecutive passes, maintaining possession and control before progressing the ball forward to score into one of two mini goals. If the two defenders succeed in winning possession, the drill swiftly transitions into an attacking phase.

Upon gaining the ball, the two defenders leave the rondo grid to join an attacker stationed near the penalty spot, creating a 3v2 attacking situation. Meanwhile, one of the original three rondo players shifts to defend alongside the remaining defender, forming a 2v3 defensive group. This creates a fast-paced counter-attacking phase focused on quick decision-making and teamwork.

  • • Encourage Quick, Accurate Passing in the Rondo – Maintain sharp ball circulation to build confidence and patience in possession.

    • Stress Awareness and Communication During Transition – Players must quickly identify roles and adapt during the switch from rondo to counter-attack.

    • Promote Explosive Movement in the Counter Attack – Attackers and defenders should use speed and positioning to exploit numerical advantages effectively.

    • Emphasize Composure and Clinical Finishing in Attack – Players must stay calm and focused to convert chances efficiently in the counter phase.

  • Reduce allowed passes in rondo to 4 before progression
Lower the number of passes needed to increase pressure on the rondo team and force quicker decisions.

    Focus:
Improves rapid ball circulation, mental sharpness, and transition speed under tighter constraints.
