Lorient Close Combinations & Finishing
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 7 | Pitch size: 1/3 Pitch
This finishing practice focuses on quick, fluid combinations in and around the penalty area. In Variation #1, the centre forward drops deep to receive the ball and plays a first-time pass around the corner for a forward runner to attack the space. In Variation #2, the centre forward again drops deep but this time plays a 1-2 combination, receiving the return pass in the vacated space beyond the defenders to finish on goal. Both variations aim to enhance the timing and execution of quick attacking combinations in tight spaces.
• Timing of Runs – The forward runners must time their movements to meet the ball in stride, ensuring they’re in the right position to receive the pass and finish with minimal delay.
• Combination Play – Emphasize quick, sharp passing between attackers. The centre forward should focus on playing the pass with the right weight, while the runner should focus on their positioning to break the defensive line.
• Body Positioning for Finishing – Attackers should be aware of their body positioning when receiving the ball, preparing themselves to finish quickly and accurately under pressure.
• Awareness of Space – Players should always be scanning for available space, whether it’s the deep run after a 1-2 or the space around the corner for a quick pass. The centre forward should identify and exploit gaps in the defence.
Add Defensive Pressure
Introduce one defender to apply passive pressure on the attacker as they receive the ball.
Focus: Simulates more realistic game pressure, improving attackers’ ability to perform quick combinations while under defensive pressure.
Vary the Cross or Delivery
Instead of always playing through the centre, vary the delivery to either side, allowing the forward runners to make different attacking runs.
Focus: Increases variety in attacking combinations and encourages players to adjust their runs based on different delivery types.
