Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 40x50

  • This practice focuses on developing 1v1 ability in wide areas before cutting inside to create shooting opportunities. The drill runs with two live balls, and play always starts with the goalkeepers who serve passes into the attackers. The attackers must then play 1v1 in a narrow wide channel, aiming to beat the defender and find space for a shot on goal. Once they have created the opportunity, they should finish with composure.

  • • 1v1 Skill Development – Attackers should focus on using a variety of dribbling moves (e.g., feints, step-overs, or quick changes of direction) to beat the defender. The key is to get the defender off balance and commit them, allowing the attacker to break into space.

    • Cutting Inside – After beating the defender in the wide area, the attacker should focus on cutting inside with speed, making sure to shield the ball from the defender. This will open up the angle for a shot while keeping the defender out of the equation.

    • Creating Shooting Space – Attackers should focus on using their body position and quick footwork to create space for themselves when cutting inside. They must also be aware of the goalkeeper's positioning to ensure they can get a clean shot off.

    • Composure in Front of Goal – Once in shooting range, attackers must focus on finishing with composure. Whether it's a low shot to the far post or a powerful strike, the emphasis should be on accuracy and technique.

  • Add Defenders in the Box
Introduce additional defenders inside the box to challenge the attacker once they cut inside. This increases the pressure and encourages attackers to be more precise with their dribbling and finishing.
Focus: Increases difficulty, simulating more realistic game scenarios where attackers face multiple defensive challenges.

  • Vary the Passing Delivery
Change the type of pass the goalkeeper plays into the attacker (e.g., high ball, driven pass, or chipped pass). This will encourage attackers to adjust their first touch and make decisions quickly.
Focus: Helps attackers adapt to different types of service and refine their ability to control and attack from various angles.
