Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 9 | Pitch size: 50x20

  • In this 3rd’s practice, the players will progress through three zones. The first two zones are single-defended, where players must work to progress the ball while overcoming one defender. After these initial phases, they will enter the final zone, where a 3v2 attack occurs. The attacking players must make use of their forward momentum, utilizing quick attacking combinations and dynamic movements to finish the attack at speed. The goal is to exploit the overload in the final zone and create a goal-scoring opportunity through well-timed runs and precise passing.

  • • Quick Combinations – Players should focus on using quick passing combinations (such as one-twos or wall passes) to break through the defended zones. This will help maintain attacking momentum and force the defenders to react under pressure.

    • Decision Making – Encourage attackers to make quick decisions about when to pass and when to attack the space themselves. Players should recognize when the 3v2 overload occurs and make sure they take advantage of this numerical superiority to create a high-quality scoring chance.

    • Speed and Timing – Timing of runs and passes is crucial. Players should aim to move the ball quickly through the zones while also timing their forward runs to receive the ball in stride. The emphasis should be on executing the final pass or shot at speed to avoid giving defenders a chance to recover.

    • Movement off the Ball – The attackers should focus on making constant runs off the ball to create passing lanes and stretch the defenders. Players should look for opportunities to drag defenders out of position, opening up spaces for teammates to exploit.

  • Add Defender Pressure in Early Phases
Introduce a second defender into the first two zones to increase the difficulty and pressure. This progression will challenge the attackers to work even faster and more efficiently in breaking down the defense.

    Focus:
Improves ability to make quick decisions and perform under pressure.

  • Transition Phase After Final Attack
Once the attack in the 3v2 zone is completed, transition the remaining attackers to defend in a counter-attacking scenario. This will encourage the attackers to move quickly into defense, simulating the transition from offense to defense after an attack.

    Focus:
Develops understanding of both attacking and defending transitions in fast-paced game situations.
