Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 7 | Pitch size: 1/3 Pitch

  • This drill focuses on sharp, close-range finishing under minimal pressure to develop striker confidence and precision. The first attacker receives a pass and shoots quickly from close range, aiming to beat the goalkeeper cleanly. Immediately after the initial shot, a second attacker makes a sharp follow-up run into the penalty area to capitalize on any rebounds, spills, or saves from the goalkeeper. This repetition helps improve reaction speed, awareness, and opportunistic finishing in front of goal.

By isolating the finishing phase without defensive pressure, players build technical shooting skills and develop instincts for reacting to second balls. The drill encourages timing runs, maintaining focus, and sharp decision-making in realistic goal-scoring scenarios.

  • • Emphasize quick, composed shooting from the first attacker – Players must focus on accuracy and power to beat the keeper efficiently.

    • Encourage the second attacker to anticipate rebounds aggressively – The follow-up runner should read the goalkeeper’s actions and react quickly for second-chance opportunities.

    • Reinforce proper body positioning and balance in finishing – Both attackers should stay balanced to shoot or control rebounds effectively under pressure.

    • Promote communication and spatial awareness in the penalty area – Players must stay aware of each other’s positions to avoid collisions and maximize scoring chances.

  • Add a Passive Defender

Introduce a passive defender applying light pressure on the initial shooter to increase shooting difficulty while maintaining the follow-up focus.

Focus: Improve composure under mild pressure, accuracy, and quick decision-making in finishing situations.

  • Reduce Recovery Time

Decrease the time allowed between shots to simulate match intensity, encouraging faster shooting and quicker follow-up reactions.

Focus: Enhance stamina, concentration, and speed of execution during high-tempo goal-scoring opportunities.
