Practice Breakdown:

Number of Players: 10 | Pitch size: 40x20

  • This drill focuses on attacking from different zones on the pitch, simulating a real-game scenario where attackers progress through the central and wide areas before finishing in the penalty box. The drill involves three zones: a central zone, the left side of the penalty area, and the right side of the penalty area. The first zone starts with an attack played from the defender, followed by attacking in the other two zones to finish.

The drill encourages players to adapt to different positions and angles while attacking, promoting versatility and decision-making in varied attacking situations.

  • • Zone Awareness: Players should focus on adapting their movements to each zone. In the central zone, attackers should aim to create space for a direct shot, while in the wide zones, they must adjust their angles for crossing and finishing opportunities.

    • Combination Play: Encourage attackers to link up with teammates in each zone. Timing the runs and passes is crucial to breaking down the defense effectively and generating shooting opportunities.

    • Quick Transitions: Players must be prepared to quickly shift from zone to zone. This helps simulate game-like transitions where attackers constantly change positions to exploit gaps in the defense.

    • Finishing with Composure: In all zones, focus on finishing with composure, whether it's a first-time shot, a controlled finish, or shooting under pressure. Make sure players remain calm when they approach goal.

  • Vary the Starting Point for the Attack:

Randomly switch the starting point for the attacking play. One time, the attack may start in the central zone, and the next time it could start in a wide zone. This variation forces attackers to adapt and be versatile in their approach to goal.

Focus: This progression builds players' adaptability to different attacking situations, whether they’re starting wide or centrally. It challenges their spatial awareness and decision-making in dynamic contexts.
