Instructions/Setup:

Play begins with a player attacking the mini goal unopposed. After receiving the ball, they will pass it into the mini goal and immediately transition to defend a 1v1 situation on the opposite side of the zone. This forces the player to quickly shift from an attacking role to a defensive one, testing their ability to adapt to different game scenarios.

The transitions are continuous, creating a constant flow of 1v1 situations. This drill can be used to improve both attacking and defending skills in rapid succession, helping players to develop stamina and mental focus.

Coaching Notes:

• Quick Transition: Emphasize the importance of a quick transition from attack to defense. Players should immediately switch gears and focus on defending once the ball is passed into the mini goal.

• Defensive Stance: Players should maintain a low and balanced stance when defending, keeping their body weight on the balls of their feet, ready to react quickly to the attacker’s moves.

• Attacker Awareness: Attackers need to be aware of the defender’s position and look for quick ways to exploit space to beat the defender. Encourage smart movement and precise timing for the finish.

• Continuous Flow: The continuous nature of the drill means players must stay focused and energized throughout. Encourage players to maintain high intensity and not lose concentration, as they will be constantly switching between attacking and defending.

Progression 1: Add a Time Limit for Attacking:

Limit the amount of time players have to complete their attack on the mini goal (e.g., 10 seconds). This encourages faster decision-making and enhances their ability to perform under time pressure.

Focus: This progression encourages speed and urgency when attacking, ensuring players don't become too slow in their decision-making.
