Instructions/Setup:

Play begins with a 3v2 setup, where the defending team (3 players) must work together to progress the ball into a lone midfielder positioned centrally. The midfielder's goal is to evade pressure and then play the ball forward into either of the two mini goals.

Once possession is regained by the defenders in one of the two zones, they transition into a counter attack. The defending team can either have a 2v3 or 3v4 situation, depending on where the possession is won, and they must attempt to score quickly by exploiting the numerical advantage.

Coaching Notes:

• Build-Up Play: Encourage the back 3 to focus on patient, intelligent passing to work the ball into the lone midfielder. The midfielder should remain calm under pressure and use good decision-making to find an option.

• Pressure on the Midfielder: Defenders should be encouraged to close down the lone midfielder quickly, making it difficult for them to play forward. Defensive pressure is crucial to limit the midfielder's options.

• Counter Attack Awareness: Once possession is won by the defenders, they must immediately shift into attack. Encourage players to make quick decisions, moving the ball rapidly and exploiting the numerical advantage in the counter attack.

• Timing of Runs: Players should make their runs at the right time to support the ball carrier during the counter attack. Well-timed, intelligent runs can create overloads and open up goal-scoring opportunities.

Progression 1: Limit Time to Progress:

Add a time constraint (e.g., 15-20 seconds) for the team of 3 defenders to successfully progress the ball into the midfielder. This encourages quicker decision-making and a faster pace of play.

Focus: This progression increases the urgency for the defending team to move the ball quickly and efficiently into the midfielder, speeding up the overall play.

Progression 2: Restrict Passing Options for the Attacking Team:

Limit the number of passes the attacking team can make before shooting. For example, the team may only be allowed to make three passes before they must attempt to score into one of the mini goals.

Focus: This progression adds a layer of pressure to the attacking team, encouraging them to make quicker, more direct attacking decisions.
