Instructions/Setup:

Play begins with a 2v2 setup, where the two attacking players aim to find a forward pass into the player positioned between the lines. This player will then turn or combine with another teammate to progress into the attacking zone.

If the attacking team successfully finds the forward pass, they can now complete the attack in a 3v2 overload, giving them an advantage to finish. If the defending team wins possession, they must attempt to score into either of the two mini goals or dribble the ball over the central line to transition into their own attack.

Coaching Notes:

• Forward Pass Awareness: Attackers should focus on creating angles to receive a forward pass and quickly transition into attack. The player between the lines should be aware of the space and timing to receive the ball and play it forward.

• Combination Play: Encourage players to use quick combinations to break the defensive line. When the ball is played to the player between the lines, they should look to either turn or combine quickly with the attackers to move forward into the attacking zone.

• Defensive Transition: When the defending team wins possession, they should look to act immediately, either by attempting to score in the mini goals or by making a fast dribble over the central line. This reinforces the importance of quick transitions and not allowing the attack to set up.

• Numerical Overload: When attackers successfully create a 3v2 overload, they should look to use their advantage by moving the ball quickly, making intelligent runs, and finishing the attack efficiently.

Progression 1: Limit the Number of Touches:

Limit the attacking players to only two touches per player. This will encourage quicker decision-making and ball movement.

Focus: This progression will increase the tempo of the attacking play, promoting faster transitions and better decision-making under pressure.

Progression 2: Add a Counter Attack Option:

Once the defending team wins possession, allow them to have a 2v2 or 3v3 counter attack with no restrictions on the number of touches.

Focus: This progression encourages the defending team to counter quickly and use their numbers effectively in the transition phase.
