Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 6 | Pitch size: 30x30
This drill starts with a 2v2 on one side of the grid, while a third team completes shuttle runs on the opposite side. The objective is for the 2v2 teams to score, at which point they must quickly transition to the other side, collect a ball from the center, and initiate a new 2v2 phase.
The team not involved in the current 2v2 phase is continuously running shuttle drills, maintaining fitness while being aware of when they must quickly transition into the live play. This keeps all players engaged and improves their agility, fitness, and ability to transition between attacking and defending situations.
• Quick Transitions: Encourage the teams to transition quickly after scoring. As soon as the ball is in the back of the net, the team must immediately run to the opposite side, collect the ball from the center, and begin a new 2v2. This promotes speed and awareness of the need to shift between attack and defense.
• Endurance and Awareness: The team completing shuttle runs must stay alert to the game’s progression. They need to be prepared to immediately transition into the live 2v2 phase and perform efficiently. The shuttle runs should be done with high intensity to enhance overall fitness.
• Communication and Support: The 2v2 teams should communicate and work together to create goal-scoring opportunities. Ensure that the attacking players support each other with good positioning and quick decision-making. The defenders should focus on positioning to cover passing lanes and anticipate the attacking moves.
• Focus on Fitness: Make sure the players not involved in the live 2v2 are pushing their fitness levels. These players should focus on maintaining high intensity during shuttle runs, building their endurance for transitions between phases.
