Instructions/Setup:

This drill starts with two unopposed finishes in and around the area, allowing the attacker to focus on finishing technique. After the second finish is complete, the attacker who completed the first of the two finishes will receive a second ball and immediately transition into a 1v1 scenario, where they must attempt to beat the defender and score.

Once the 1v1 phase is complete, the two attackers switch roles, and the practice restarts, ensuring both players get a chance to work on both finishing and attacking under pressure.

Coaching Notes:

• Finishing Technique: Encourage the attacker to focus on precise finishing with both feet, aiming for the corners of the goal. The focus should be on calmness and accuracy in the first unopposed finishes before transitioning into the more dynamic 1v1 phase.

• 1v1 Decision-Making: The attacker must quickly assess the 1v1 situation and decide whether to dribble past the defender, shoot immediately, or use a change of direction to create space. Emphasize quick thinking and effective use of body feints and dribbling techniques.

• Timing of the Transition: As soon as the second finish is complete, the attacker should quickly shift into the 1v1 mindset, remaining focused on their positioning and readiness to receive the second ball for a quick attack. The transition should be smooth and seamless to maintain intensity.

• Defender Pressure: The defender in the 1v1 should focus on cutting down angles and forcing the attacker into less advantageous positions. Encourage defenders to stay patient, not diving in too early, and forcing the attacker into making a mistake or rushing their shot.

Progression 1: Defender Switches after Finishes:

After the attacker completes the 1v1, switch the roles so that the defender who was previously defending transitions into the attacker, and vice versa. This encourages both players to work on both their attacking and defending skills in a dynamic situation.

Focus: This progression ensures that players get balanced development in both attacking and defending, maintaining high intensity and engagement throughout the drill.
