Instructions/Setup:

In this 1v1 drill, players in possession focus on creating space through quick changes of direction and deception skills. Their goal is to pass or cross the ball into one of the two mini goals positioned in the attacking area. The defenders, on the other hand, are tasked with blocking or intercepting any crossing or passing attempts to deny the attacking player from scoring.

Each phase is limited to 10 seconds to increase the intensity and simulate game-like pressure. This encourages both attacking players to make fast, decisive decisions, and defenders to react quickly under time constraints.

Coaching Notes:

• Deception and Change of Direction: Attackers should use various moves, such as feints and quick direction changes, to create space between themselves and the defender. Encourage attackers to use their body to deceive and unbalance the defender.

• Quick Decision-Making: Attackers need to make quick decisions on whether to cross or pass, depending on the situation. Emphasize the importance of assessing the defender’s positioning and choosing the most effective option.

• Defending under Pressure: Defenders should stay compact and read the attacker’s movements carefully. Encourage them to close down the ball quickly and try to block the cross or intercept the pass while maintaining balance.

• Time Management: The 10-second limit should push players to act fast and increase the intensity. Stress the need for rapid decision-making and swift execution on both the attacking and defending sides.

Progression 1: Defender Pressure:

After each successful pass or cross into the mini goal, the defending player must transition quickly to defend the opposite side of the grid, making it a continuous 1v1 with a faster turnaround. This simulates more realistic game pressure.

Focus: This progression increases the intensity by requiring defenders to transition quickly between defending and attacking, encouraging players to maintain high energy throughout the drill.
