Instructions/Setup:


This 3-grid rondo focuses on encouraging players to switch play effectively by utilizing the free player. In either of the end grids, the possession team will have a 3v1 advantage, while in the narrow central grid, they will play with a 2v1 overload. The aim is to create quick, dynamic play by using the space and the free player to maintain possession and shift the ball efficiently between the grids.



Coaching Notes:


• Switching Play: Encourage the team in possession to recognize when to switch the ball from one grid to the other. Players should focus on using the free player to maintain possession and quickly shift the play to open up new attacking opportunities.


• Movement and Positioning: Off-the-ball movement is crucial. Encourage players to constantly adjust their positions to create passing lanes, ensure they’re in a good receiving position, and make themselves available to receive passes from the free player.


• Defensive Pressure: The defending team must stay compact, close down passing lanes, and apply pressure to the ball carrier. They should focus on working together to prevent the attacking team from easily switching the play and finding the free player.


• Decision Making: Players should focus on making quick decisions to either pass, dribble, or switch play, depending on the positioning of the defenders and teammates. Encouraging smart, sharp passes will keep the tempo high and force the defending team to react.



Progression 1: Limit Passes:


Limit the number of passes per player (e.g., 2 touches per player). This progression encourages players to make quicker decisions and forces faster ball movement.


Focus: Improves decision-making speed, ball control, and passing accuracy under pressure, promoting quicker transitions and dynamic play.
