Marseille Finishing In Behind
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 7 | Pitch size: 1/3 Pitch
This unopposed finishing drill starts with a pass from the central player to a wide player. After receiving the ball back from the wide player, the central player will then thread a precise pass through the mannequins to a teammate positioned on the opposite side of the grid. The receiving player is then expected to make a run in behind the mannequins and finish on goal.
The focus of this drill is on accurate passing, timing of the runs, and finishing under no pressure. By removing opposition, players can work on their technical execution and focus on the details of the pass and finish.
• Passing Accuracy: Stress the importance of precise and accurate passing, especially when threading the ball through the mannequins. The pass must be weighted correctly to allow the receiving player to run onto it smoothly.
• Timing of Runs: The receiving player must time their run to arrive in the space behind the mannequins. Encourage them to start their run just as the central player is about to play the ball, ensuring they are onside and in a good position to finish.
• Finishing Focus: The player receiving the pass should focus on finishing the ball with composure. Remind them to keep their shots low and aimed towards the corners of the goal to increase their chances of scoring.
• First Touch: Encourage players to focus on their first touch as they receive the ball. A good first touch will set them up for a clean finish and give them more time to compose themselves before shooting.
Add Movement or Dummy Runs:
Introduce movement from the mannequins or have other players make dummy runs to simulate opposition defenders, making the drill slightly more game-realistic.
Focus: This progression adds a layer of complexity to the drill, encouraging players to read the situation and adapt their finishing based on the positioning of defenders.
Add a Defender for Pressure:
Add a defender to apply light pressure to the receiving player just before they finish, forcing them to make quicker decisions and finish under pressure.
Focus: This progression simulates a more realistic match scenario, helping players to deal with pressure and finish effectively while being closed down.
