Miami Attacking 1v1 Box

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 6 | Pitch size: 30x30
In this 1v1 attacking practice, play begins with a pass played across the grid from a defender into an attacker. The attacker must receive the ball and immediately enter a smaller central grid, where they are required to control and manipulate the ball in a tight space under pressure. This initial phase focuses on close control, quick touches and the ability to protect the ball in confined areas.
Once the attacker exits the central grid, the practice opens into a more expansive 1v1 scenario. The attacker must then drive forward into space and attempt to score into either of the two mini goals positioned ahead. This creates a contrast between tight-space dribbling and explosive attacking play, encouraging players to adapt their technique, speed and decision-making as the scenario evolves.
• Close Control in Tight Spaces:
Encourage attackers to use small, quick touches, protect the ball effectively and stay balanced under pressure in confined areas.
• Change of Pace on Exit:
Reinforce accelerating quickly once leaving the central grid to exploit space before the defender can recover.
• 1v1 Creativity and Execution:
Coach attackers to use feints, body movements and changes of direction to unbalance and beat the defender.
• Defensive Patience and Positioning:
Emphasise defenders staying controlled, delaying the attacker and forcing play away from the most direct scoring route.
Limited Touches in Central Grid:
Restrict the attacker to a set number of touches while inside the tight central area.
Focus:
Improves close control, quicker decision-making and technical execution under increased pressure and limited time.
Directional Constraint on Finish:
Assign each mini goal a condition or scoring rule to influence attacker decision-making.
Focus:
Enhances awareness, encourages smarter choices and improves finishing accuracy in dynamic 1v1 situations.
