Miami Finishing For Wingers
ADDED TO FAVOURITES

Practice Breakdown:
Number of Players: 5 | Pitch size: 1/3 Pitch
This finishing practice is designed specifically for wide players, focusing on their ability to attack inside and finish from different angles. Wingers begin by dribbling forward before being guided through one of two directional gates. The first gate directs them toward the outside, where they must finish from a tight angle close to goal, replicating scenarios where wide players drive down the line and shoot.
The second gate encourages movement inside toward the edge of the box, simulating a winger cutting inside to shoot. The practice is mirrored on both sides of the penalty area, allowing players to work on finishing with both feet from different angles and approaches. This repetition helps develop confidence, adaptability and end product in realistic wide attacking situations.
• Quality of First Touch and Dribble:
Encourage controlled but aggressive dribbling, setting up the correct angle to attack either inside or outside effectively.
• Decision-Making Based on Angle:
Reinforce recognising the finishing scenario early and selecting the appropriate technique based on position and pressure.
• Finishing from Tight Angles:
Coach players to stay composed, adjust body shape and strike cleanly when finishing from narrow positions close to goal.
• Cutting Inside to Shoot:
Emphasise shifting the ball quickly onto the stronger foot and executing accurate finishes from the edge of the box.
Add Passive Defender Pressure:
Introduce a recovering or passive defender to apply light pressure and increase realism during the dribble and finish.
Focus:
Improves decision-making, composure and execution when finishing under realistic but manageable defensive pressure.
Alternate Finishing Foot Requirement:
Require players to finish using their weaker foot when attacking both inside and outside channels.
Focus:
Develops technical balance, confidence on both feet and more unpredictable finishing ability in wide areas.
